Out of Touch!

9 Dec

I had mentioned I thought the display on my laptop had gone bad, but it turned out the power cord was faulty. The local shop repaired it but it took a couple of days. By Friday nite when we got it back the internet at the casita was out. TV worked, log on to router was good, but the signal didn’t ‘go out or in’ for the internet. Finally today it came back on….no idea why or what. Yesterday was Mother’s Day holiday here so no one working, and today is Sunday.

Anyway we’re back on and able to catch up on contacts and a couple posts to this. Tuesdays they have Tuesday Market at the Boquete Community Players Theatre. There is a group which puts on plays, and other performances. I think the theatre is maybe an addition to an open covered area public building. I believe much of the funding for the theatre was raised by the ‘expat’ groups here. Anyway they have markets there on Tuesdays. There was a session in the theatre for ‘newbies’ with information on local transportation, and other items of general interest. A great exchange of ideas, news and info. Vendors pay a small fee to display items for sale….food to include fresh garden items, breads, cosmetics, handcrafted jewelry and art. Some pictures of the action follow.

Here’s a couple of pictures of the Caldera River which runs thru town. They were taken from the main bridge, in town center.

Talked about the rain for last month. Temperatures were still warm and comfortable. You’ll note the river bed is lined with huge boulders. Not sure how long they have been there, but the entire river bed we’ve been able to see is all lined this way. They had some serious flooding in the area in 2008. A bridge that washed out just north of town was still out when we were here in 2011, and we were told there were no plans to replace it since it washed out twice before. Here’s a link to photos of that event for any interested.
